squad member who is killed in the performance of duties on
or after January 1, 1980. The amount of the benefit shall be
$25,000[, less any amount received by that person from:

(i) Any lump-sum death benefit payable by
the State or any political subdivision, exclusive of any
return of contributions, or,

(ii) The present value of any benefit
payable under the provisions of Article 73B, § 11(11)(b) of
the Code].

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

AN ACT concerning

Transportation and Highway System Priorities

FOR the purpose of establishing a legislative policy
requiring the State Department of Transportation and

the State Highway Administration to give highway

maintenance, safety, modification, and mass transit
priority over new highway construction make certain
determinations before proceeding to final project
planning; and incorporating the policy into the
definition of "highway needs inventory" "initial
project planning phase".
