COST OF SCREENING AND DIAGNOSIS THE AMOUNTS RECEIVED FROM
THIRD PARTY PAYERS.

(F) THE DEPARTMENT SHALL MAKE AN ANNUAL REPORT TO THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF ITS FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCERNING THE EFFECTIVENESS, IMPACT, AND BENEFITS DERIVED
FROM THE SPECIAL PROGRAMS AS PROVIDED FOR IN THIS SECTION.
THE REPORT SHALL BE DELIVERED ON OR BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF
JANUARY AND SHALL CONTAIN EVALUATIONS OF THE SPECIAL
PROGRAMS, AND ANY LEGISLATION DEEMED NECESSARY AND PROPER.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

AN ACT concerning

Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and
Others - Death Benefits

FOR the purpose of repealing certain amounts that are
deductible from death benefits received by survivors or
the estate of law enforcement officers, firefighters,
and others killed in the line of duty.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative

Departments
Section 59A-l(a)(l)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1978 Replacement Volume and 1980 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative

Departments

59A-1.

(a) (1) A death benefit shall be paid to the surviving
spouse, children, or designated beneficiary of any law
enforcement officer of the State or of any political
subdivision of the State, any sheriff or deputy sheriff, or
any volunteer or professional fireman firefighter or rescue
