SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-309.

(i) (1) The Sheriff of Cecil County shall receive an
annual salary of [$15,000] $16,000 and free lodging for
himself and his family at the jail or, in lieu of free
lodging, [$3,600] $7,200 per year. [The Sheriff shall
appoint 22 full-time deputy sheriffs. Of the deputies, one
shall be chief deputy whose starting annual salary shall be
not less than $10,500 and whose maximum salary, through
scheduled steps as provided by the county commissioners,
shall be $16,000. There shall be two investigators,
designated as Investigator I and Investigator II and there
shall be a chief jailer. Investigator I shall have a
starting annual salary of not less than $10,500 and a
maximum salary, through scheduled steps as provided by the
county commissioners, of $16,000. Investigator II and the
chief jailer shall have starting annual salaries of not less
than $10,000 and maximum salaries, through scheduled steps
as provided by the county commissioners, of $15,500. The
remaining deputies shall receive a starting annual salary of
not less than $9,500 and a maximum salary, through scheduled
steps as provided by the county commissioners of $15,000.
Of the remaining deputies, no less than seven shall be
classified as jailer. If any deputy resigns or is fired and
