In collaboration with such agencies as the courts,
police, and the Motor Vehicle Administration, the Division
of Alcoholism Control shall propose appropriate programs of
alcoholism education or treatment for individuals convicted
under § 21-902 of the Transportation Article of driving
while intoxicated or while [their driving ability is
impaired.] UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. These programs
shall be coordinated with and integrated into broad planning
for comprehensive community health and welfare services.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That wherever
"driving while ability impaired by consumption of alcohol"
shall appear in the Annotated Code of Maryland, it is the
legislative intent that "driving while under the influence
of alcohol" shall be substituted and have the same meaning
and effect as "driving or attempting to drive while ability
impaired or not impaired by the consumption of alcohol, as
the case may be or the context requires.
SECTION 2 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

AN ACT concerning
Vehicle Laws - Point System
FOR the purpose of providing that the higher point levels
for suspension or revocation of a driver's license that
are used for persons whose employment or opportunity
for employment would be adversely affected may not be
used when the need to apply the higher point level is
caused by accumulating applicable to licensees who are
required to drive a motor vehicle in the course of
regular employment shall not apply if a licensee is
assessed licensee's current accumulation of points
includes points resulting from conviction for a
violation of the Vehicle Laws relating to operating a
vehicle while intoxicated, with ability impaired by, or
under the influence of alcohol or under the influence
of, a drug, or a combination of alcohol and a drug, or
a controlled dangerous substance.
