SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That section(s)
of the Annotated Code of Maryland be repealed, amended, or
enacted to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-309.

(a) The sheriff of a county and his deputies shall
receive the annual salaries provided by this section for
performing the duties required of them by the constitution
and the laws of this State. They shall be reimbursed for
expenses as provided by law.

(j) (1} THE SALARY FOR THE SHERIFF OF CHARLES COUNTY
IS:

1983;

YEAR 1984;
YEAR 1985; AND
YEAR 1986.

(I)  $32,000 PER YEAR FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR

(II)  $33,000 PER YEAR FOR THE CALENDAR

(III)  $34,000 PER YEAR FOR THE CALENDAR

(IV)  $35,000 PER YEAR FOR THE CALENDAR

[The Sheriff of Charles County shall receive a salary
of $22,000.]

(2)  The Board of Public Safety of Charles County
shall appoint the number of deputy sheriffs it deems
necessary.

(3)  The books of the Sheriff shall be audited
annually, and copies of the audit published by the County
Commissioners in local newspapers.

Article - Estates and Trusts

(j) Each of the judges of the court for Charles County
shall receive as annual compensation [$1,100] $2,000. Each
judge shall also be allowed $400 annually for traveling
expenses, payable quarterly.

Article - Education

4-106.

(f) (1) Except as otherwise provided in this article,
a member of a county board may not receive compensation.
