WHEREAS, To date, funds have accumulated from
appropriations and the sale of the published Archives of
Maryland, and have been maintained by the Maryland
Historical Society in a publications fund; and

WHEREAS, On September 22, 1980, the Council of the
Maryland Historical Society resolved that the remaining
Archives volumes, the publications fund, and the
responsibility for future publication of the Archives be
transferred to the Hall of Records; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 54 - Hall of Records

3.

(C) (1) THE HALL OF RECORDS COMMISSION MAY ACCEPT THE
TRANSFER OF THE INVENTORY OF THE ARCHIVES OF MARYLAND AND
FUNDS RELATING THERETO FROM THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY.
THE STATE COMPTROLLER SHALL MAINTAIN THE TRANSFERRED FUNDS
AS A SPECIAL FUND, DESIGNATED THE ARCHIVES FUND TO BE USED
TO:

(I)  PREPARE, EDIT, AND PUBLISH FUTURE
VOLUMES OF THE ARCHIVES OF MARYLAND SERIES;

(II)  REPRINT UNAVAILABLE VOLUMES OF THE
ARCHIVES OF MARYLAND; AND

(III)  RECEIVE MONEYS DERIVED FROM THE SALE
OF OR APPROPRIATED FOR PUBLISHING THE ARCHIVES OF MARYLAND.

(2) THE HALL OF RECORDS COMMISSION MAY REQUEST
THAT THE TREASURER INVEST FUND MONEYS ONLY FOR THE PURPOSES
SPECIFIED IN PARAGRAPH (1) OF THIS SUBSECTION.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety
and having been passed by a yea and nay vote supported by
three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
