BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 96 1/2 - Veterans

Section 19(c)

Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 96 1/2 - Veterans

19.

(c) Any veteran who received an honorable discharge
from the armed forces of the United States [and was a legal
resident of the State of Maryland at the time of his death]
shall be eligible for burial in a state veterans' cemetery
IF HE WAS A LEGAL RESIDENT OF THE STATE FOR 20 YEARS AS AN
ADULT OR IF HE WAS A LEGAL RESIDENT OF THE STATE WHEN:

(1) HE ENTERED THE ARMED FORCES; OR

(2) HE DIED.

(c) (1) Any veteran who received an honorable
discharge from the armed forces of the United States [and
was a legal resident of the State of Maryland at the time of
his death] shall be eligible for burial in a state veterans'
cemetery, IF THE VETERAN WAS A LEGAL RESIDENT OF THE STATE
FOR 20 YEARS, OR IF THE VETERAN WAS A LEGAL RESIDENT OF THE
STATE WHEN THE VETERAN ENTERED THE ARMED FORCES OR WHEN THE
VETERAN DIED.

(2) THE MARYLAND VETERANS' COMMISSION MAY WAIVE
THE 20-YEAR REQUIREMENT, IF, IN THE JUDGMENT OF THE
COMMISSION, THERE ARE COMPELLING REASONS TO DO SO.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.
