BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 96 1/2 - Veterans
Section 3(a)
Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article 96 1/2 - Veterans

(a) The Governor shall appoint a Commission to be
known as the "Maryland Veterans Commission," to be composed
of [nine] 15 Maryland veterans, one of whom shall be
designated by the Governor as chairman. Each congressional
district shall be represented, [and] one member shall
be an at-large member A PERSON WHO IS CURRENTLY THE CHAIRMAN
OF THE MARYLAND VETERANS' HOME COMMISSION. AND SIX MEMBERS,
APPOINTED AS OF JULY 1, 1979, SHALL BE MEMBERS,
RESPECTIVELY, OF THE AMERICAN LEGION, THE DISABLED AMERICAN
VETERANS, THE CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS, THE JEWISH WAR
VETERANS, THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, AND THE VETERANS OF
WORLD WAR I SHALL EACH HAVE ONE MEMBER AMONG THE REMAINING
SIX ON THE COMMISSION, TO BE APPOINTED AS OF JULY 1, 1979.
Members shall be eligible for reappointment to the
Commission. All persons who are members of the Commission
as of [August 31, 1970] JUNE 30, 1979, shall continue to
serve as members until the expiration of the terms to which
they were appointed. All appointments to the Commission
shall be for seven-year terms. The department commander of
the American Legion, the department commander of the Marine
Corps League, the department commander of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, the department commander of the Disabled
American Veterans, the department commander of the
Spanish-American War Veterans, the department commander of
the World War I Veterans, the department commander of the
Catholic War Veterans, the department commander of the
Amvets, the department commander of the Polish American War
Veterans, the department commander of the Jewish War
Veterans and the president of the Maryland Retired Officers
Association shall constitute an advisory committee to the
Commission, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor
without vote.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1979.
