of Commissioners. However, the Division Director
is appointed by the Secretary and can be removed
only by the Secretary or, in certain instances,
by the Governor.

"Board of Commissioners", "Division Director",
"savings and loan association", and "Secretary"
are defined in § 8-101 of this title.

8-303. POWERS AND DUTIES.

THE DIVISION DIRECTOR HAS GENERAL SUPERVISION OF
SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATIONS IN THIS STATE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the first
sentence of Art. 23, § 161G(c).

As to the Director's authority to issue orders
see § 8-401 of this title.

"Division Director" and "savings and loan
association" are defined in § 8—101 of this
title.

8-304. STAFF OF DIRECTOR.

(A)      DEPUTY DIRECTOR.

(1)   WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE SECRETARY, THE
DIVISION DIRECTOR SHALL APPOINT A DEPUTY DIRECTOR;

(2)   THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR SERVES AT THE PLEASURE
OF THE DIVISION DIRECTOR AND IS AN EMPLOYEE OF THE DIVISION
OF SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATIONS.

(3)   THE STATE MERIT SYSTEM LAW DOES NOT APPLY TO
THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR. HOWEVER, IF THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR IS
APPOINTED FROM AMONG THE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE
DIVISION OF SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATIONS, ON TERMINATION OF
THE APPOINTMENT AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR, THE EMPLOYEE IS ENTITLED
TO RESTORATION OF ALL RIGHTS PREVIOUSLY HELD UNDER THE MERIT
SYSTEM LAW BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT.

(B)       DUTIES OF DEPUTY DIRECTOR.

THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR HAS THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE
DIVISION DIRECTOR:

(1)   TO THE EXTENT DELEGATED BY THE DIVISION
DIRECTOR; OR

(2)   IF THE OFFICE OF DIVISION DIRECTOR IS
ABSENT. VACANT; AND

(3) IF FOR ANY REASON THE DIVISION DIRECTOR IS
