Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1083.

This bill directs the Department of Health and Mental
Hygiene to assume certain costs of medical care provided
inmates of public institutions who are eligible for

Senate Bill 542, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 6, 1980 accomplishes the
same purpose.

Therefore it is unnecessary for me to sign House Bill
1083.

Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor
