HARRY HUGHES, Governor
3387
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404
Dear Mr. President:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 1080.
This bill removes the reference to Cecil County from
the provisions of Sec. 8-634 of the Transportation Article.
That section provides that the State Highway Administration
shall construct and maintain the highways of counties that
are listed in the section. The effect of the bill would be
to make Cecil County responsible for maintaining its own
road maintenance as of October 1, 1980.
The sponsor of the bill, at the request of the County
Commissioners of Cecil County, has asked that I veto the
bill because the Commissioners have found that it is not
feasible for the county to establish a new road building
department this year.
For this reason, I have decided to veto Senate Bill
1080.
Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor
