JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Driver Education - Fuel Economy

FOR the purpose of urging the Department of Education to
include motor fuel economy advice in the driver

education program and in the "Maryland Driver's

Manual"; and requesting the State Motor Vehicle
Administration to include motor fuel economy
information in the "Maryland Driver's Handbook".

WHEREAS, The President of the United States has stated
that motor fuel conservation is a national priority; and

WHEREAS, The cost of gasoline is continually
skyrocketing; and

WHEREAS, Gasoline is a limited, unrenewable energy
resource; and

WHEREAS, Motor fuel conservation will help break the
present dependence of the United States on the foreign
oil-producing states; and

WHEREAS, Many driving habits are formed during a driver
education program while young drivers are learning how to
drive; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
State Department of Education is requested to include in the
drivers' education program information on motor fuel
conservation and economy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the State Department of Education is
requested to include in the "Maryland Driver's Manual" a
section on fuel economy Motor Vehicle Administration is
requested to include motor fuel conservation and economy
information in the "Maryland Driver's Handbook"; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to Mr.
David W. Hornbeck, State Superintendent of Schools, Post
Office Box 8717, Baltimore-Washington International Airport,
Baltimore, Maryland 21240; and to Mr. William Bricker,
Director, Motor Vehicle Administration, 6601 Ritchie
Highway, Glen Burnie, Maryland 21062.
