Annotated Code of Maryland

(1979 Replacement Volume and 1979 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(as enacted by Chapter 4 of the Acts of the General Assembly
of 1980) be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as
follows:

Article 96 1/2 - Veterans

3.

(a) The Governor shall appoint a Commission to be
known as the "Maryland Veterans Commission," to be composed
of [15] 16 19 17 Maryland veterans, one of whom shall be
designated by the Governor as chairman. Each congressional
district shall be represented BY A MEMBER, ONE MEMBER SHALL
BE AN AT-LARGE MEMBER, and one member shall be a person who
is currently the chairman of the Maryland Veterans' Home
Commission. The American Legion, the Disabled American
Veterans, the Catholic War Veterans, THE AMVETS, THE MARINE
CORPS LEAGUE, THE MARYLAND RETIRED OFFICERS ASSOCIATION, THE
FLEET RESERVE ASSOCIATION, the Jewish Waif Veterans, the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the veterans of World War I
shall each have one member [among the remaining [six]
SEVEN TEN on the Commission, to be appointed as of July 1,
[1979] 1980. Members shall be eligible for reappointment to
the Commission. All persons who are members of the
Commission as of June 30, 1979, shall continue to serve as
members until the expiration of the terms to which they were
appointed. All appointments to the Commission shall be for
seven-year terms. [The department commander of the American
Legion, the department commander of the Marine Corps League,
the department commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
the department commander of the Disabled American Veterans,
the department commander of the Spanish-American War
Veterans, the department commander of the World War I
Veterans, the department commander of the Catholic War
Veterans, the department commander of the Amvets, the
department commander of the Polish American War Veterans,
the department commander of the Jewish War Veterans and the
president of the Maryland Retired Officers Association shall
constitute an advisory committee to the Commission, who
shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor without vote.]

[(e) There shall be a committee [of 12 persons], to be
known as the advisory Maryland veterans committee, composed
of the current department commanders, respectively, of [the
American Legion,] the Marine Corps League, [the Veterans of
