correction of life safety deficiencies in various
hospitals and centers of the Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene; amending Chapter 671 of the Acts of
1977, the General Construction Loan of 1977, as
previously amended by Chapter 174 of the Acts of 1978
and Chapter 707 of the Acts of 1979, to reduce the
appropriation for acquisition of property and
construction of medium security facilities to provide
800 beds and to change the object of the object of that
appropriation to acquisition of property and
construction of medium and/or maximum security
facilities to provide 500 beds, and to authorize the
use of funds resulting from the reduction for
acquisition of a site and construction of a 250-bed
prerelease unit.; planning and preparation of
preliminary plans and specifications for the renovation
of the House of Correction for a maximum of 800 beds
with a proviso that there be a certain cap on the
prison population in the Jessup area; planning and
preparation of preliminary plans and specifications for
renovation and additional construction of the Maryland
Penitentiary to house no less than 1,000 beds;
acquisition of land in the vicinity of the Maryland
Penitentiary; and planning and preparation of
preliminary plans of construction of an additional
facility or facilities for a maximum of 500 beds at the
site or sites acquired in the vicinity of the Maryland
Penitentiary.
