AN ACT concerning
Prince George's County - Salaries and Expenses for
Sheriff and Assistant Sheriffs
PG 326-80
FOR the purpose of altering the salaries and expense
accounts payable to the Sheriff and assistant sheriffs
of Prince George's County; authorizing the Sheriff to
appoint his staff as he deems necessary; relating
generally to the office of the Sheriff of Prince
George's County; and clarifying language.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-309.
(r) (1) The Sheriff of Prince George's County shall
receive an annual salary of [$25,500] $39,500, be provided
with an automobile during his term as Sheriff for the use
and work of his office, with adequate maintenance and
insurance for the automobile to be at the cost of the
county, and not more than [$2,500] $3,000 per year for
expenses incurred in performing his duties, including
training and education, an accounting of which shall be
submitted to the County Director of Finance for approval.
(2) The Sheriff of Prince George's County shall
be provided with three full-time assistant sheriffs, and all
assistant sheriffs shall be selected and appointed by the
Sheriff and serve at his pleasure. The assistant sheriffs
shall be considered line officers, if so designated by the
Sheriff. Each assistant sheriff shall receive an annual
salary of [$22,000] $35,000 $25,000, be provided with an
automobile for so long as they shall remain appointed
assistant sheriff, for the use and work of the office of
Sheriff, with adequate maintenance and insurance of the
automobile to be at the expense of the county, and be
provided with an expense allowance of not more than [$500]
$1,500 $1,000 annually, an accounting of which shall be
submitted to the County Director of Finance for approval.
The assistant sheriffs shall devote their full time and
attention to the office of Sheriff.
