Section 22-405.2(b)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Transportation
22-405.2.

(b) [Except as permitted by the Administrator, no]
AFTER APRIL 30, 1981, A tire on a vehicle driven on a
highway may NOT have on its periphery any block, stud,
flange, cleat, or spike or any other protuberance of any
material, other than rubber, that projects beyond the tread
of the traction surface of the tire, except that:

(1)  It is permissible to use farm machinery with
tires having protuberances that will not injure the highway;
[and]

(2)  It is permissible to use tire chains of
reasonable proportions on any vehicle when required for
safety because of snow, ice, or other conditions tending to
cause a vehicle to skid[.];

(3)  IT IS PERMISSIBLE FOR A VEHICLE NOT
REGISTERED OR REQUIRED TO BE REGISTERED IN THIS STATE TO USE
TIRES AS DESCRIBED IN SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS SECTION; AND

(4)  IT IS NOT PERMISSIBLE FOR A PERSON TO MAY
NOT SELL OR OFFER FOR SALE IN THIS STATE ANY TIRE AS
DESCRIBED IN WHICH IS NOT PERMITTED TO BE USED IN THIS STATE
UNDER SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS SECTION.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.
