HARRY HUGHES, Governor

1363

public document. The original map and every copy shall
contain a certificate signed by the mining engineer or
surveyor who prepared it. The certificate shall provide
that the map and copy are exact duplicates and accurately
show the lines portrayed. The district mine inspector shall
review the copy to insure that it includes a signed
statement of the mine foreman stating that he has carefully
examined the map and copy and that it is an accurate copy of
the original map and represents the mine property according
to his personal knowledge

(g) If the district mine inspector suspects that any
mine working approaches dangerous accumulations of water or
gas, he may require by special safety order that the
operator cause the suspected portion of the mine to be
surveyed immediately and entered on the map of the mine. If
he suspects an excessive proportion of carbon dioxide or
insufficient oxygen in the atmosphere of any mine, he shall
take the test prescribed by the Bureau. If the test
discloses a ventilating current below or approaching the
minimum standard, he shall require the operator, by written
safety order, to improve immediately the mine's
ventilation.]

7-402.

[(a) Every operator of a mine in the State shall make
a report to the Bureau annually under oath, before March 1,
on forms the Bureau furnishes covering facts regarding the
production and conditions of the mine during the preceding
calendar year as the Bureau may require.

(b) By the 25th lay of each month, if the Bureau
requires every operator of a bituminous coal mine shall
make a report to the district mine inspector, upon forms the
Bureau furnishes, which covers facts regarding the
production and conditions of the mine during the preceding
calendar month.

(d) Subject to the Director's approval, each mine
operator may adopt rules and regulations, not inconsistent
with the provisions of this subtitle or the rules and
regulations of the Bureau. The operator's regulations may
apply only to matters which tend to preserve life, health,
property, and prevent injury to the employees of the mine.
The operator shall print the rules and regulations in every
language spoken by at least ten workers at the mine. They
shall be prepared both in pamphlet form for distribution to
every employee who wants them and upon large placards
posted at conspicuous places at and within the mine. When
the rules and regulations are posted every worker is deemed
to have notice of and to have agreed to the rules and
regulations. However, nothing in this section deprives the
operator of any mine subject to the provisions of this
subtitle of any power of ownership, management, and control
not affected by this subtitle or existing law.
