AN ACT concerning

State Lottery Claim Period

FOR the purpose of increasing the claim period for redeeming
winning tickets in the State lottery; conforming other
references to this claim period; and clarifying
language.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 88D - State Lottery

Section 16

Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 88D - State Lottery

16.

Unclaimed prizes for a winning ticket or share shall be
retained by the director for the person entitled thereto for
[90 days] 1-YEAR 180 DAYS after the drawing in which the
prize was won. If no claim is made for the prize within the
[90 days] YEAR 180 DAYS, the prize shall remain in the State
Lottery Fund for further use as prizes. [Nothing in this]
THIS section [shall] MAY NOT be construed to prohibit the
holding of bonus games or drawings with a preannounced
period for the claiming of prizes of other than [90 days] 1
YEAR 180 DAYS. A bonus game or drawing shall be any game,
so designated by the State Lottery Agency, other than
regular weekly or daily lottery drawings. [This section
shall apply to all prizes won on or after May 24, 1973,
except as may be modified by this article.]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980 January 1, 1981.
