FOR the purpose of providing for the special admission to an
institution of higher education of a student who has
completed a certain grade in school and who has a
certain combined Scholastic Aptitude Test score or a

nationally accepted college entrance exam; meets

certain standards; and providing that this Act does not
affect funding of a secondary school in which the
student is enrolled; and providing that the student has
completed a certain grade in school and who has a
certain combined Scholastic Aptitude Test score or an
equivalent score on a nationally accepted college
entrance examination; and providing that this Act does
not affect funding of a secondary school in which the
student is enrolled shall be eligible for certain
financial aid.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 11-101

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1978 Volume and 1979 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Education

11-101.

(A)  Each public institution of higher education shall
accept for admission any graduate of an approved public high
school:

(1)  Who is certified by his high school
principal, based on standards of the State Board of
Education, as qualified to pursue a course of study at the
institution; or

(2)  Who meets the admission standards of the
institution.

(B)  (1) EACH PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION
MAY ACCEPT, FOR SPECIAL ADMISSION ANY STUDENT WHO HAS:

(I) COMPLETED THE SEVENTH GRADE; AND

(II) A SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST COMBINED
SCORE OF 1,000 OR AN EQUIVALENT SCORE ON A NATIONALLY
ACCEPTED COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAM.

(2) THIS SUBSECTION DOES NOT AFFECT PUBLIC

FUNDING FOR THE SECONDARY SCHOOL IN WHICH THE STUDENT IS
ENROLLED.
