THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE TRUST
408A.
(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION, UNLESS THE CONTEXT CLEARLY
REQUIRES OTHERWISE, THE FOLLOWING TERMS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.
(2) "STATE ROOMS" MEANS THE STATE RECEPTION
ROOM, STATE PARLOUR, CONSERVATORY, STATE DRAWING ROOM, STATE
DINING ROOM, PRIVATE RECEPTION ROOM, AND CENTER HALL OF
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
(3) "FURNISHINGS" MEANS EVERY ITEM OF PERSONAL
PROPERTY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO FURNITURE,
ACCESSORIES, AND ART OBJECTS.
(B) (1) THERE IS A GOVERNMENT HOUSE TRUST.
(2) WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
AND THE COUNCIL OF THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY, THE
MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE GALLERY OF THE MARYLAND
HISTORICAL SOCIETY, WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF
TRUSTEES AND THE COUNCIL OF THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY,
AND ACTING IN TRUST FOR THE PEOPLE OF MARYLAND, SHALL SERVE
AS THE MEMBERS OF THE TRUST. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE
SHALL SERVE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE TRUST.
(3) THE TRUST SHALL MEET AT THE CALL OF EITHER
THE CHAIRMAN OR A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE TRUST.
(4) MEMBERS OF THE TRUST SHALL RECEIVE NO
COMPENSATION FROM THE STATE FOR THEIR SERVICES; HOWEVER,
MEMBERS MAY BE REIMBURSED, IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD
TRAVEL REGULATIONS, FOR PROPER AND NECESSARY EXPENSES
INCURRED IN THE DISCHARGE OF THEIR OFFICIAL DUTIES.
(C) IT IS THE DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY OF THE
GOVERNMENT HOUSE TRUST TO SUPERVISE AND DIRECT THE
RENOVATION, DESIGN, AND FURNISHING OF THE STATE ROOMS OF
GOVERNMENT HOUSE. NO IMPROVEMENT, ALTERATION, REPAIR,
ADDITION, REMOVAL, OR OTHER CHANGE IN THE INTERNAL DESIGN OR
FURNISHING OF ANY STATE ROOM OF GOVERNMENT HOUSE IS
AUTHORIZED UNLESS APPROVED BY THE TRUST. IN PERFORMING
THESE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES THE TRUST SHALL CONSULT
WITH AND SEEK THE ADVICE OF THE COMMISSION ON ARTISTIC
PROPERTY.
(D) THE TRUST, ON BEHALF OF THE STATE, MAY RECEIVE AND
ACCEPT GIFTS AND LOANS OF PROPERTY FOR USE IN THE STATE
ROOMS OF GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
