    In the name of God amen I John Gilbert of Kent County +
   State of Maryland being in an Indifferent state of health but of ~
   perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore calling to mind
   the mortallity of my Body and knowing that it is ordained for all
   men once to die, do therefore make and ordain this my last Will and
   Testament, First I recommend my Soul into the hands of^almightyGod who
   gave it and my Body to be buryed in a decent & Christian like ~
   manner at the discression of my Executrix, And as for such worldly
   Goods which it has pleased God to bless me with in this life I give –
   and devise in Way and manner following. —
   Imprimis I give and bequeath unto Mary my dearly beloved wife –
   four Certain Negro’s that is to Say Judge + Rachel his wife, Jones ~
   and Nero, also my riding chair and her choise of all my Horses –
   Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Phebe Gilbert a Negro –
   fellow called Jim, also a Negro Woman called Hannah, also a Negro
   boy called Jerry, also a Negro Girl called Cate, and a Negro boy called –
   Stephen one third of all the Remainder and Residue of my Estate I give
   and bequeath unto Mary my dearly beloved wife, and the Remaining
   two thirds I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Phebe Gilbert to her –
   her heirs and Assigns forever. My Will further is that my Daughter
   Phebe Gilberts part of my stock and Household goods shall be sold at
   Vendue Immediatly after my decease, and the money they sell for to
   be put out on Interest which Interest I give and bequeath unto my -
   Wife during her Widowhood. but if it should happen that my Daughter
   Phebe should die before she comes to Lawfull age, then my Will is
   that all her Estate shall decend to Capt. Josiah Johnson to him ~
   his heirs and Assigns forever, But if Capt. Josiah Johnson should be
   then also dead my Will is that in that case all my Daughter Phebe
   Gilberts Estate shall then be equally divided between all my Brother
   Thomas Gilberts children, And Lastly I do hereby Constitute and ~
   appoint Mary my dearly beloved wife to be Executrix of this my
