   Joseph. Sturgis, Joseph Wilkinson, George Little,. ——
   February 14th. 1785. Then came George Little one of the Subscribing Witnesses
   to the within last Will & Testament of Lovering Merritt^lateof Kent County
   deceased, and made Oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God, that he did –
   see the Testator herein named Sign & Seal this Will, And that he heard –
   him publish pronounce & declare the same to be his last Will & Testament,
   that he was at the same time of sound disposing mind, memory and –
   Understanding, And that he this deponant together with Joseph Sturgis
   and Joseph Wilkinson the two other Subscribing Witnesses were present
   at the same time, and Signed their names as Witnesses to this Will
   with this deponant, in the presence of the Testator, and at his Request,
   and in the presence of each other . ——

   In the name of God Amen I Thomas Johnson of Kent County
   Chester Town in the State of Maryland being very weak of Body
   but perfectly Sound in mind and memory, and calling to mind ~
   that all men must die, I make and ordain this^to bemy last Will and
   Testament,   First of all I deliver up my Soul into the hands of God
   who gave it, and I allow that my Body shall be decently Intered ~
   at the discretion of my well beloved friend Thomas Laurance ~
   who was born in Berk Shire in old England and is now a Residenter
   and dweller in Chester Town in Kent County in the Maryland State
   I now Nominate and appoint the said Thomas Lawrance to be –
   the whole and Sole Executor and Administrator of this my last
   Will and Testament, And Concerning what Worldly Goods it hath ~
   pleased God to bless me with in this life I dispose of in the following
   manner, First of all I allow that all my Just debts shall be discharged ~
   and paid. ~ And next I Will leave and bequeath unto Thomas —
   Lawrance my afd Executor and Administrator all the Remainder of
   my Estate wholly and Solely, to him and his Heirs for ever. —
   and as there are but few that know that I am the Rightful Heir to an
