AN ACT concerning
Driver Education - State Support
FOR the purpose of repealing a July 1, 1980 effective date
in a statute terminating State support for driver
education; and repealing certain sections of the
statute relating to driver education, thus leaving the
existing program of State support for driver education
in effect.
FOR the purpose of extending the effective date for the
termination of State funding for driver education
programs in the State; and making driver education an
optional program for the public school after a certain
date if a certain contingency occurs.

Section 1 through 5, inclusive, and 8 Section 8 of
Chapter 972 of the Acts of the General Assembly
of 1977

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section(s) 1 through 5, inclusive, and 8 of
Chapter 972 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1977 be
repealed. chapter(s) of the Acts of the General Assembly be
repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

SECTION 8. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the General
Assembly shall continue to evaluate the cost effectiveness
of the driver education program in the State of Maryland and
the validity of continuing State support of this program.
If no action to the contrary is taken by the General
Assembly by July 1, [1979] 1983, Sections 1 through 5 of
this Act shall take effect July 1, [1980] 1984.
