CHAPTER 63

(House Bill 735)

AN ACT concerning

Dorchester County - Chief Deputy Sheriff

FOR the purpose of requiring the County Commissioners of
Dorchester County to appoint a chief deputy sheriff if
the sheriff becomes incapacitated and the position of
chief deputy sheriff is vacant.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

Section 2-309(k)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1974 Volume and 1978 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-309.

(k) (1) The Sheriff of Dorchester County shall receive
a salary of $17,500, and be allowed the actual cost of the
maintenance of automobiles and the county jail. He shall
appoint a chief deputy sheriff, one assistant deputy
sheriff, other deputies, and a jail matron if approved by
County Commissioners. A deputy or matron shall receive the
compensation provided in the county budget.

(2) IF THE SHERIFF BECOMES INCAPACITATED AND THE
POSITION OF CHIEF DEPUTY IS VACANT, THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
SHALL APPOINT A CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1979.
