AN ACT concerning

Public Schools — Baltimore County — School
Closings or Conversion

FOR the purpose of providing that the Baltimore County Board
of Education request the Baltimore County Office of the
Planning Board Planning and Zoning to submit written
recommendations on proposed school closings or

conversions at least 3 months before the Baltimore

County School Board takes its final action by a certain

date; and providing for waiver of certain provisions of
this Act in certain circumstances.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article — Education

4-114.

(a)   This section does not apply to Baltimore City.

(b)   With the approval of the State Superintendent,
each county board may:

(1)   Buy or otherwise acquire land, school sites,
or buildings; and

(2)   Rent, repair, improve, and build school
buildings or approve contracts for doing so, if the plans
conform to the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the State

Board.

(c)    (1) If, with the approval of the State
Superintendent, a county board finds that any land, school
site, or building no longer is needed for school purposes,
it shall be transferred by the county board to the county
commissioners or county council and may be used, sold,
leased, or otherwise disposed of, except by gift, by the
county commissioners or county council.
