(3)    IF A LANDLORD FAILS TO SEND THE LIST OF
DAMAGES REQUIRED BY PARAGRAPH (2), THE RIGHT TO WITHHOLD ANY
PART OF THE SECURITY DEPOSIT FOR DAMAGES IS FORFEITED. IF A
LANDLORD FAILS TO RETURN THE SECURITY DEPOSIT AS REQUIRED BY
PARAGRAPH (2), THE TENANT HAS AN ACTION OF UP TO THREEFOLD
OF THE WITHHELD AMOUNT, PLUS REASONABLE ATTORNEY'S FEES.

(4)    EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT SPECIFIED, THIS
SUBSECTION MAY NOT BE INTERPRETED TO ALTER THE LANDLORD'S
DUTIES UNDER SUBSECTIONS (F) AND (H).

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1979.

AN ACT concerning

Law Enforcement Officers' Death Benefits

FOR the purpose of providing that the death benefit payable
to law enforcement officers nay go to their designated
beneficiary; and specifying the effect of certain life
insurance policies on the amount of the death benefits
payable with respect to certain law enforcement
officers.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 41 — Governor — Executive and Administrative

Departments
Section 59A-1 (a) and (c)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1978 Replacement Volume and 1978 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 41 — Governor — Executive and Administrative

Departments

59A-1.

(a) (1) A death benefit shall be paid to the surviving

spouse or , children, OR DESIGNATED BENEFICIARY of any

law.....enforcement officer of the State or of any political
