Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1978 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 43 - Health

604.

(a)    Physical therapy is a health specialty concerned
with the prevention of disability and the physical
rehabilitation of persons having A CONGENITAL OR ACQUIRED
disability [resulting from, or secondary to, injury, or
disease ].

(b)    (1) The "practice of physical therapy" means
the practice, for compensation directly or indirectly paid,
of the health specialty and includes:

(i) Performing and interpreting tests and

measurements of neuromuscular,---CARDIOVASCULAR, PULMONARY,

and musculoskeletal functions as an aid to treatment;

(ii) Planning initial and subsequent
treatment programs, on the basis of test findings[, and
within the orders of the referring practitioner]; and

(iii) Administering treatment through the
use of therapeutic exercise, NEURODEVELOPMENTAL PROCEDURES,
THERAPEUTIC massage, mechanical devices, and therapeutic
agents which employ the physical, chemical, and other
properties of air, water, electricity, sound, and radiant
energy.

606.

(c)    Members of the Board shall be entitled to receive
such compensation as it may determine from time to time, not
to exceed [$25] $50 per day for each day they are engaged in
transacting the business of the Board. The members shall
receive also their necessary traveling expenses in
accordance with the standard travel regulations.

608.

The Board is empowered to pass upon the qualifications
of applicants for licensure as physical therapists and
