(B) TO ASSURE THE AVAILABILITY AND COMPATIBILITY OF
PLANNING DATA, SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION, AND FUNDING, THE
DEPARTMENT SHALL COOPERATE WITH THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT
OF AGRICULTURE IN FOREST RESOURCE PLANNING EFFORTS AS
PROVIDED FOR IN THE FOREST AND RANGELANDS RENEWABLE
RESOURCES PLANNING ACT OF 1974 AND THE COOPERATIVE FORESTRY
ASSISTANCE ACT OF 1978.
PART IV. URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY

(A) IN THIS PART, THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.
(B) "URBAN AND COMMUNITY AREAS" MEANS AN EXISTING OR
PLANNED COMMUNITY DEVELOPED FOR RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, OR
INDUSTRIAL USES.
(C) "URBAN COMMUNITY FORESTRY" MEANS THE PLANNING,
ESTABLISHMENT,------PROTECTION, AND MANAGEMENT OF FORESTS AND
AREAS.

(A) THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FINDS AND DECLARES THAT
TREES AND FOREST IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT IN URBAN AREAS.
PLANTING, PROTECTING, AND MAINTAINING TREES AND FORESTS AND
UTILIZING--WOOD FROM PRUNED AND DAMAGED TREES IN URBAN AREAS
MAKES THOSE AREAS A MORE ATTRACTIVE AND HEALTHFUL--PLACE TO
LIVE, WORK, AND VISIT.
(B) THE DEPARTMENT MAY ESTABLISH AND ADMINISTER A
PROGRAM TO PLAN AND PROMOTE URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY.

(A) ANY URBAN COMMUNITY FORESTRY PROGRAM WITHIN THE
DEPARTMENT SHALL BE ADMINISTERED FROM FUNDS PROVIDED IN ITS
BUDGET. ANY COUNTY OR MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT, BY APPROPRIATE
FORESTRY PROGRAM WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION OR --ENTER INTO A
COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT.
(B) THE DEPARTMENT MAY ACCEPT FEDERAL FUNDS AND MAY
PROVIDE COST SHARE FUNDS TO COOPERATING GOVERNMENTS FOR THE
PURPOSE OF ADMINISTERING ANY URBAN COMMUNITY FORESTRY
PROGRAM.
(C) THE DEPARTMENT MAY ACCEPT FEDERAL FUNDS AND MAY
PROVIDE COST SHARE FUNDS TO COOPERATING GOVERNMENTS.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1979.
