AN ACT concerning
Forestry
FOR the purpose of requiring the Department of Natural
Resources to develop a long—term forest resource plan
to provide for the sustained yield of forest resource
benefits; authorizing the Department and local
governments to administer an urban and community
forestry—program;—defining certain terms to cooperate
with a certain federal department and to accept certain
federal funds; and generally relating to forest
resources.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article — Natural Resources
5-214.
(A) THE DEPARTMENT SHALL DEVELOP A SYSTEM FOR
LONG-RANGE RENEWABLE FOREST RESOURCES PLANNING. THE PUBLIC
AND PRIVATE FOREST LAND RESOURCES OF MARYLAND, INCLUDING,
BUT NOT LIMITED TO, WOOD FIBER, FOREST RECREATION, WILDLIFE,
FISH, FOREST WATERSHED, AND WILDERNESS POTENTIAL, SHALL BE
EXAMINED AND INVENTORIED PERIODICALLY. AS PART OF THE
FOREST RESOURCE PLANNING PROCESS, THE DEPARTMENT SHALL
PERIODICALLY DEVELOP, REVIEW AND REVISE A RESOURCE PLAN THAT
SHOULD HELP TO PROVIDE FOR THE SUSTAINED YIELD OF FOREST
RESOURCE BENEFITS FOR THE CITIZENS OF MARYLAND. THE FOREST
RESOURCE PLAN SHALL BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC AND
LEGISLATIVE REVIEW AND COMMENT.
