FOR the purpose of prohibiting the compulsion of disclosure
of any unpublished information or the source of any
unpublished—information—obtained by a news reporter
providing that certain persons connected with a
newspaper, journal, radio or television station may not
be compelled to disclose the source of certain
information that was obtained for certain purposes; and
clarifying language.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 9-112
Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article — Courts and Judicial Proceedings

A person engaged in, connected with, or employed on a
newspaper or journal or for any radio or television station
may not be compelled to disclose, [in any legal proceeding
or trial or before any committee of the legislature or
AS TO ANY NEWS OR INFORMATION OR the IN ANY LEGAL PROCEEDING
OR TRIAL OR BEFORE ANY COMMITTEE OF THE LEGISLATURE OR
ELSEWHERE, THE source of any news or information [procured
or] THAT WAS obtained by [him] THE PERSON for, and published
OR NOT PUBLISHED in, the newspaper or disseminated by the
radio or television—station where [he] THE PERSON is
engaged, connected with, or employed PURPOSES OF PUBLICATION
IN A NEWSPAPER OR JOURNAL OR FOR PURPOSES OF DISSEMINATION
BY A RADIO OR TELEVISION STATION WHERE THE PERSON IS
ENGAGED, CONNECTED WITH OR EMPLOYED.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1979.
