MARYLAND SHALL BE GIVEN MEMBERSHIP SERVICE FOR THE PERIOD
SPENT IN SUCH PRIVATE SCHOOL PRIOR TO THE YEAR 1940. TO BE
ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THIS MEMBERSHIP SERVICE, THE
PERSON SHALL PAY TO THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM THE FULL AMOUNT OF
WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS ACCUMULATED CONTRIBUTIONS THEREIN
HAD HE IN FACT BEEN A MEMBER OF THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM DURING
THE PERIOD SPENT IN THE PRIVATE SCHOOL.

(6)   THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MAY, IN ITS DISCRETION, DENY
THE RIGHT TO BECOME MEMBERS TO ANY CLASS OF TEACHERS WHOSE
COMPENSATION IS ONLY PARTLY PAID BY THE STATE OR WHO ARE
SERVING ON A TEMPORARY OR OTHER THAN PER ANNUM BASIS, AND IT
MAY ALSO IN ITS DISCRETION MAKE OPTIONAL WITH MEMBERS IN ANY
SUCH CLASS THEIR INDIVIDUAL ENTRANCE INTO MEMBERSHIP.

(7)   CONDITIONS UPON WHICH MEMBERSHIP CEASES; CREDIT
FOR SERVICE AS MEMBER OF EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM OR
STATE POLICE RETIREMENT SYSTEM; REENTRY. —SHOULD ANY
MEMBER IN ANY PERIOD OF SIX CONSECUTIVE YEARS AFTER LAST
BECOMING A MEMBER BE ABSENT FROM SERVICE MORE THAN FIVE
YEARS, OR SHOULD HE WITHDRAW HIS ACCUMULATED CONTRIBUTIONS,
OR SHOULD HE BECOME A BENEFICIARY OR DIE, HE SHALL THEREUPON
CEASE TO BE A MEMBER. HOWEVER, ANY SUCH PERSON WHO HAS
WITHDRAWN HIS ACCUMULATED CONTRIBUTIONS (OTHER THAN ONE WHO
HAS BECOME A BENEFICIARY OR DIED) MAY SUBSEQUENTLY REDEPOSIT
IN THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM THE AMOUNT OF ACCUMULATED
CONTRIBUTIONS PREVIOUSLY WITHDRAWN, WITH INTEREST TO THE
DATE OF REDEPOSIT, AND REGAIN PREVIOUS SERVICE CREDIT WITH
THE CONDITION, HOWEVER, THAT HE MAY NOT RETIRE WITHIN THREE
YEARS AFTER THE DATE OF REENTRY IN THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM.

ANY MEMBER WHO HAD TERMINATED MEMBERSHIP IN THE
EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM OR THE STATE POLICE RETIREMENT
SYSTEM MAY AND UPON DEPOSIT INTO THE TEACHERS' RETIREMENT
SYSTEM OF THE ACCUMULATED CONTRIBUTIONS PREVIOUSLY WITHDRAWN
FROM THE EMPLOYEES' SYSTEM OR THE STATE POLICE SYSTEM, WITH
INTEREST TO DATE OF DEPOSIT, RECEIVE CREDIT IN THE TEACHERS'
SYSTEM FOR THE SERVICE THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN TERMINATED
WITH THE CONDITION, HOWEVER, THAT HE MAY NOT RETIRE WITHIN
THREE YEARS AFTER THE DATE OF ENTRY IN THE TEACHERS'
RETIREMENT SYSTEM.

84. PAYMENT BY COUNTIES OF PENSIONS TO CERTAIN TEACHERS
INELIGIBLE UNDER THIS SUBTITLE; SPECIAL PROVISIONS AS TO
CAROLINE, WASHINGTON AND FREDERICK COUNTIES.

ANY PERSON WHO—

(1) SHALL HAVE BEEN A TEACHER IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF
THIS STATE FOR AN AGGREGATE PERIOD OF 25 YEARS OR MORE
PRIOR TO JUNE 1, 1927, AND WHO, IN THE CASE OF CAROLINE
COUNTY, SHALL HAVE BEEN A TEACHER FOR A PERIOD OF 20 YEARS
OR MORE PRIOR TO JUNE 1, 1927; AND WHO, IN THE CASE OF
WASHINGTON AND FREDERICK COUNTIES, SHALL HAVE BEEN A
TEACHER, WHETHER A DAY, NIGHT OR SUBSTITUTE TEACHER, OR A
CLERK, AND WHETHER AT THE SAME TIME OR AT DIFFERENT TIMES,
FOR A PERIOD OF 20 YEARS OR MORE PRIOR TO JULY 1, 1931; AND
