402                                          LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 22

18-306. HOW AWARDED.

(A)   BOARD TO PREPARE LISTS.

THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD SHALL COMPILE AND CERTIFY
LISTS, FOR EACH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT AND FOR THE ENTIRE
STATE, THAT RANK APPLICANTS BY:

(1)   SCORE ON THE COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION; AND

(2)   THE AMOUNT OF NEED.

(B)   AWARD.

(1) ONE HALF OF THE MONEY FOR EACH LEGISLATIVE
DISTRICT SHALL BE AWARDED TO QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WHO:

(I)   CAN DEMONSTRATE SOME FINANCIAL NEED; AND

(II) SCORED HIGHEST ON THE COMPETITIVE
EXAMINATION.

(2)    ONE HALF OF THE MONEY FOR EACH LEGISLATIVE
DISTRICT SHALL BE AWARDED TO QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WHO:

(I)   HAVE THE GREATEST FINANCIAL NEED; AND

(II) TOOK THE COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION, IF
REQUIRED, REGARDLESS OF SCORE.

(C)   STATEWIDE AWARDS.

AFTER ALL ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS FROM A DISTRICT HAVE BEEN
PROCESSED, THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD SHALL USE ANY MONEY
ALLOCATED TO THAT LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT, BUT NOT AWARDED, TO
MAKE AWARDS FROM THE STATEWIDE LIST OF ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES
IN THE MANNER PROVIDED IN SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS SECTION.

(D)    NOTICE TO SENATORS.

ON OR BEFORE JUNE 1 OF EACH YEAR, THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP
BOARD SHALL SEND EACH SENATOR A LIST OF INDIVIDUALS IN EACH
LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT TO WHOM GENERAL STATE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE
AWARDED.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 77A, §57(e).

The provision of the first sentence of present
Art. 77A, §57 (e), that requires the Board to
compile lists of those who have a "passing mark"
on the competitive examination is deleted since
there is no "passing" grade on the examination.
Although Ch. 336, Acts of 1975 deleted the
"passing" requirement under present Art. 77A,
§57(b), through an apparent oversight, the
requirement in present §57(e) was not deleted.
