Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1536.

This bill provides that, in Prince George's County,
written notice of any claim for unliquidated damages for
tortious conduct shall be presented to the County Executive.

House Bill 1952, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 16, 1978, generally revises
certain provisions for claims against certain political
subdivisions and, in doing so, specifies, for Prince
George's County, that the County Executive is the official
to whom a claim is to be presented.

Since the purpose of House Bill 1536 is accomplished by
the enactment and signing of House Bill 1952, it is
unnecessary for me to sign House Bill 1536.

Municipal Corporations - Official Immunity

FOR the purpose of providing certain officials, employees,
and agents of municipal corporations with immunity from
civil liability as to certain claims related to
official duties and employment; and requiring the
governing bodies of municipal corporations to provide
counsel to defend its officials, employees, and agents
against certain claims.
