House Bill No. 689 - Montgomery County — Games and

Contests by Retail Establishments

AN ACT concerning

Montgomery County — Games and Contests by Retail

Establishments

MC 205-78

FOR the purpose of including Montgomery County among those
counties which axe exempt from certain prohibitions
against giving away of prizes by certain retail
merchants.

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 689.

This till exempts Montgomery County from the law which
prohibits a nonfranchise retail merchant from giving away
prizes for certain purposes.

Senate Bill 218, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 16, 1978, exempts all
jurisdictions, save one, from this prohibition. In doing
so, Senate Bill 218 exempts Montgomery County also.

Since the purpose of House Bill 689 is accomplished by
the enactment and signing of Senate Bill 218, it is
unnecessary for me to sign House Bill 689.
