In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 558.

This bill authorizes a subtraction from federal
adjusted gross income for State income tax purposes of
certain household expenses and dependent care services.

Senate Bill 517, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed be me on April 11, 1978, accomplishes
the same purpose.

Therefore it is unnecessary for me to sign House Bill
558.

House Bill 580 - State Employees — Accident Leave

AN ACT concerning

State Employees — Accident Leave

FOR the purpose of providing for accident leave with full
pay for State employees sustaining certain injuries or
accidents while performing their jobs, subject to
certain conditions; and deleting certain leave
provisions for certain injured State employees.

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 580.

This bill authorizes accident leave for State employees
who sustain a personal injury in the performance of job
duties.

Senate Bill 214, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 29, 1978, accomplishes the
same purpose. In addition, the Secretary of Personnel has
