LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 22

(C)    STANDARDS AND QUALIFICATIONS TO BE ADOPTED BY
BOARD.

(1)   IN CONSULTATION WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT OF
THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE AND THE MARYLAND POLICE TRAINING
COMMISSION, THE BOARD OF REGENTS SHALL ADOPT STANDARDS,
QUALIFICATIONS, AND PREREQUISITES OF CHARACTER, TRAINING,
EDUCATION, HUMAN AND PUBLIC RELATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE FOR
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND POLICE OFFICERS, INCLUDING STANDARDS
FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES.

(2)   TO THE EXTENT PRACTICABLE, THE BOARD SHALL
ADOPT STANDARDS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THE STANDARDS ADOPTED
FOR THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE.

(3)   STANDARDS ADOPTED ON OR AFTER JULY 1, 1975,
ON MINIMUM HIRING QUALIFICATIONS OF UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND
POLICE OFFICERS MAY NOT AFFECT THE STATUS OF ANY INDIVIDUAL
WHO HAS A QUALIFIED UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND POLICE OFFICER ON
THAT DATE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection presently appears as
the first three sentences of Art. 77A, §15(g)(3).

In paragraph (2) of this subsection, the term
"similar to" is substituted for the somewhat
nonsequential "consistent with".

In paragraph (3) of this subsection, the
reference to "July 1, 1975" is substituted for
"hereafter" for clarity. This date was the
effective date of Ch. 301, Acts of 1975, which
enacted this provision.

The only other changes are in style.

(D)   RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD.

THE BOARD OF REGENTS SHALL ADOPT RULES AND REGULATIONS
GOVERNING THE OPERATION AND CONDUCT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
MARYLAND POLICE FORCE AND OF UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND POLICE
OFFICERS.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection presently appears as
the fourth sentence of Art. 77A, §15(g)(3).

As revised, this subsection gives the power to
adopt these rules and regulations to the "Board
of Regents", rather than the "University". This
conforms with similar provisions elsewhere, and
in no way affects the power of the Board to
delegate power to the appropriate officials of
the University.

The only other changes are in style.

The fifth sentence of present Art. 77A,
§15(g)(3), which requires observance and
