JOINT RESOLUTIONS
WHEREAS, such ingress and egress is of vital importance
for economic and recreational reasons and for the
maintenance of public utility lines; and
WHEREAS, The citizens and taxpayers are economically
harmed and seriously inconvenienced by the inability to have
free access; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
United States Coast Guard reject the permit requested by the
National Railroad Passengers Corporation which would fix the
draw bridge over Bush River, Harford County, Maryland; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That any future design of the Bush River Draw
Bridge, whether related to its rebuilding or modification of
the existing structure, shall incorporate sufficient means
and procedures to facilitate boat travel in order to allow
ingress and egress through the Bridge; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the regulations governing the opening of
the draw of the railroad bridge at Bush River, Harford
County, Maryland, be corrected in accordance with Section
512 of Title 33, of the United States Code, and allow
passage to boats to the upper part of Bush River at will or
upon proper signal by both attendants on the bridge; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the
Honorable Brock Adams, Secretary, Department of
Transportation, Washington, D.C.; the Maryland Congressional
Delegation: Senators Charles McC.Mathias, Jr. and Paul S.
Sarbanes, Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510;
and Representatives Robert E. Bauman, Clarence D. Long,
Barbara A. Mikulski, Marjorie S. Holt, Gladys N. Spellman,
Goodloe E. Byron, Parren J. Mitchell, and Newton I. Steers,
Jr., House Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20515; and the
County Executive and County Council of Harford County, Bel
Air, Maryland; and the Commandant, 5th Coast Guard District,
Federal Building, 431 Crawford Street, Portsmouth, Virginia
