Section 354M

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1972 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 48A — Insurance Code

354M.

(A) EVERY INDIVIDUAL HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY AND

EVERY GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY CONTRACT WHICH PROVIDES
HOSPITAL BENEFITS WHICH IS DELIVERED OR ISSUED FOR DELIVERY
IN THIS STATE BY A NONPROFIT HEALTH SERVICE PLAN SHALL

PROVIDE FOR PAYMENT OF EXPENSES BENEFITS FOR ORTHOPEDIC

PROSTHETIC DEVICES AND ORTHOPEDIC BRACES.

(B) (1) IN THIS SECTION "PROSTHETIC DEVICE" MEANS
AN ARTIFICIAL LIMB.

(2) IN THIS SECTION "AN ORTHOPEDIC BRACE" MEANS
A RIGID OR SEMI-RIGID DEVICE WHICH IS USED TO SUPPORT A WEAK
OR DEFORMED BODY MEMBER OR TO RESTRICT OR ELIMINATE MOTION
IN A DISEASED OR INJURED PART OF THE BODY.

(B) (C) THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION APPLY TO ALL

POLICIES AND CERTIFICATES CONTRACTS ISSUED, RENEWED,

MODIFIED, ALTERED, AMENDED, OR REISSUED ON OR AFTER JULY 1,
1978.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.
