(B) A MONTH OF SERVICE SHALL MEAN A MONTH OR
ANY PORTION OF A MONTH IF A CONTRIBUTION FROM COMPENSATION
IS MADE IN THAT MONTH.

(3)    Subject to the above restrictions and to such
other rules and regulations as the board of trustees may
adopt, the board of trustees shall verify, as soon as
practicable after the filing of such statements of service,
the service therein claimed.

(4)    Upon verification of the statements of service
the board of trustees shall [issue prior service
certificates certifying] CREDIT to each member the [length
of] service rendered prior to the date of the establishment
of the retirement system [, with which he is credited on the
basis of his statement of service. So long as membership
continues a prior service certificate shall be final and
conclusive for retirement purposes as to such service,
provided, however, that any member may]. ON request OF A
MEMBER, the board of trustees [to] MAY modify or correct his
prior service [certificate, and said board is hereby
authorized to make any modifications or corrections on a
member's prior service certificate and upon the board's
records of membership,] CREDIT upon proof that, through no
fault of the member, the period of prior service as stated
on [such certificate] THE STATEMENT OF SERVICE is found to
be incorrect or inaccurate.

[When membership ceases such prior service certificate
shall become void. Should the employee again become a
member, such employee shall enter the system as an employee
not entitled to prior service credit. ]

(5)     (a) Creditable service at retirement on which
the retirement allowance of a member shall be based shall
consist of the membership service rendered by him since he
last became a member and [also, if he has a prior service
certificate which is in full force and effect, the period of
the] service certified [on his] AS prior service
[certificate].

[In addition, any person who at any time had previous
State service with membership in the Maryland State Police
Pension Fund shall be credited with such service for
creditable service purposes.]

(B) CREDIT MAY BE REGAINED IF A MEMBER DEPOSITS
IN THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM THE ACCUMULATED CONTRIBUTIONS
PREVIOUSLY WITHDRAWN FROM THE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM,
THE TEACHERS' RETIREMENT SYSTEM, OR THE STATE POLICE
RETIREMENT SYSTEM, IN A LUMP SUM AND WITH INTEREST TO DATE
OF DEPOSIT, ON CONDITION THAT THE MEMBER MAY NOT RETIRE
WITHIN THREE YEARS AFTER THE DATE OF ENTRY INTO THE
RETIREMENT SYSTEM, EXCEPT THAT THE THREE-YEAR CONDITION DOES
NOT APPLY TO RETIREMENT DUE TO DISABILITY.
