FOR the purpose of removing the limitation on the length of
permitted seines in the Potomac River; and altering the
permitted length of haul seines used in the St. Mary's

waters of the Wicomico River and its tributaries

between Maryland Point in Charles County and

Cheseldine's Island in St. Mary's County.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article — Natural Resources

4-718.

(a) A person may not use a haul seine greater than
960 feet in length in the Potomac River and its tributaries
TRIBUTARIES OF THE POTOMAC RIVER, and NOT GREATER THAN 1800
FEET IN LENGTH in the ST. MARY'S COUNTY WATERS OF THE
Wicomico River and its tributaries between Maryland Point in
Charles County and Cheseldine's Island in St. Mary's County.
Any person who possesses a seine greater than [960 feet in
length] THESE LENGTHS while actively engaging in seining in
these waters is guilty of violating this subsection.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.
