AN ACT concerning

Applications for Drivers' Licenses - Divorced People

FOR the purpose of providing that certain divorced persons
may elect in applying for drivers' licenses to use any
legal or true name used previously; and altering a
certain definition re—defining the term "name" to allow
a divorced individual to use a previous legal or true
name if the use is consistent and non—fraudulent.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Transportation

11-137.

"Name" means:

(1)    True or legal name; and

(2)    In the case of an individual, the name
given at birth to the individual by his parents or as
changed by marriage or by court order; AND

(3)    IN THE CASE OF AN INDIVIDUAL DIVORCED A
VINCULO MATRIMONII, THE INDIVIDUAL MAY ELECT TO USE ANY
LEGAL OR TRUE NAME PREVIOUSLY USED BY THE INDIVIDUAL IF THIS
NAME IS USED CONSISTENTLY AND NON-FRAUDULENTLY.
