MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

645X.

(A)    WHENEVER ANY PERSON IS CONVICTED OF A CRIME AND
FINED OR ASSESSED COURT COSTS THE JUDGE MAY REQUIRE THE
DEFENDANT IN SATISFACTION OF THE FINE OR COURT COSTS TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE WORK PROGRAM ESTABLISHED UNDER THE

JURISDICTION OF THE SHERIFF OF THE COUNTY WHERE THE--OFFENSE

OCCURRED OR ONE OF THE OFFICES OF THE DIVISION OF PAROLE AND
PROBATION IN BALTIMORE CITY.

(B)    ANY PERSON PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM SHALL
RECEIVE A CREDIT AT LEAST EQUAL TO THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE
TOWARD THE ORIGINAL FINE OR COURT COSTS.

(C)    THIS SECTION APPLIES TO PERSONS TRIED AND
CONVICTED IN BALTIMORE CITY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this
section shall be interpreted as supplemental and additional
to the powers and authority conferred by other laws upon the
district court and Supreme Bench judges of Baltimore City,
and may not be regarded as in derogation of any powers now
existing with the district court and Supreme Bench judges of
Baltimore City.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.

State employees regularly working certain full—time,
rather than eight-hour, shifts.
