SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect June 1, 1978.

CHAPTER 413

(House Bill 2081)

AN ACT concerning

St. Mary's County — State's Attorney's Salary

FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the State's

Attorney of St. Mary's County; expressing a certain

intent with regard to that State's Attorney; permitting

the appointment of and generally relating to a Deputy

State's Attorney; providing for funding and for

payments for salaries and expenses; and prohibiting the
salary increase from affecting the incumbent.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 10 — Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

Section 40(s)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1976 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

40.

(s) (1) In St. Mary's County the State's Attorney's
salary is [$25,000] $28,000 per year. During his term of
office, the State's Attorney may not appear as counsel or
represent any party professionally before any court, board,
commission or agency of this State or any county or
political subdivision of this State, except in connection
with and in the performance of his duties as the State's

Attorney. THE INTENT OF THESE PROVISIONS IS THAT THE

STATE'S ATTORNEY NOT ENGAGE IN THE PRIVATE PRACTICE OF LAW

IN ANY MATTER, WHATSOEVER.

(2) The County Commissioners of St. Mary's
County shall make provisions for all secretaries,
