(t) The Sheriff of St. Mary's County shall receive a
salary of [$15,000] $18,000 and no expense allowance. He
shall have the number of deputies provided for in the public
local laws of St. Mary's County.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
Sheriff in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the Sheriff
shall take effect at the beginning of the next following
term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.

Strip Mining — Equipment Removal

FOR the purpose of providing for the moving of backfilling
equipment from the work site prior to the completion of
the job upon written approval of the Bureau of Mines.

be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

(g) [All] UNLESS THE OPERATOR OBTAINS THE PRIOR
WRITTEN APPROVAL OF THE BUREAU, ALL backfilling described in
the approved reclamation plan shall be completed before
backfilling equipment is moved from the operation.
