SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 64A — Merit System

18.

(c-1) If a veteran eligible for credit under this
section served in the armed forces of the United States for
a period in excess of six months during the period August 4,
1964 through March 31, 1973, he shall be given a special
credit of five points in all examinations for his initial
appointment and employment with the State. The provisions
of this subsection shall remain in effect until June 30,
[1978] 1980, after which date, without further action by the
General Assembly, this subsection shall have no force or
effect.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.
