FOR the purpose of deleting certain provisions that specify
the rights of women to practice law and to hold public
offices and positions and that validate acts of women
notaries public.

Preamble

WHEREAS, At common law women were prohibited     from

exercising various civil rights including the right to   hold

public office, the right to be a notary public, and     the
right to practice law; and

WHEREAS, The Maryland General Assembly enacted various
statutes in the early 20th Century which abrogated the
common law and thereby assured women of various civil
rights; and

WHEREAS, The development of the 14th Amendment to the
United States Constitution and the enactment of Maryland's
Equal Rights Amendment, Article 46 of the Maryland
Declaration of Rights, fully assure to Maryland women
equality of rights and make unnecessary the continuation of
certain statutes; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
