(S) IF THE PERSON ACCUSED FAILS TO APPEAR FOR TRIAL
AND THE STATE'S ATTORNEY DETERMINES THAT THE PERSON IS A
FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR, HE THE
STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPLY FOR FORFEITURE OF THE VEHICLE BY
GIVING THE NOTICE REQUIRED BY SUBSECTION (K).
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.

AN ACT concerning
Vehicle Laws — Mopeds
FOR the purpose of providing that a bicycle operated by
human power with the assistance of a motor shall be
defined as a "moped" under the Maryland Vehicle Laws by
deleting such a vehicle from the definition of
"bicycle" and adding a definitional section for the
tern "moped"; distinguishing a moped from a motorcycle
by increasing the motor rating requirements of a
motorcycle as defined in the definitional section;
providing that certain vehicles which are registered as
motorcycles by a certain date shall continue to be
registered as motorcycles; requiring the use of certain
licenses to operate a moped on any highway in this
State; providing for the issuance of a moped operator's
permit to certain persons; prescribing the requirements
for obtaining a moped operator's permit; prescribing
issuance, renewal, and duplication fees for a moped
operator's permit; authorizing the Motor Vehicle
Administration to determine the form and contents of
the moped operator's permit; setting forth an
expiration date for generally relating to the
application, issuance, and renewal of a moped
operator's permit; authorizing the Motor Vehicle
Administration to determine the form and contents of
the moped operator's permit; setting forth an
expiration date for a moped operator's permit; and
generally relating to the application, issuance, and
renewal of a moped operator's permit.
