(Senate Bill 1223)

AN ACT concerning

Practice of Pharmacy

FOR the purpose of redefining the term "practice of
pharmacy".

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 43 - Health

Section 250(a)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section (s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 43 - Health

250.

(a) The "practice of pharmacy" is the practice that

is concerned with MAY INCLUDE [the art and science of

preparing, compounding and dispensing of drugs, medicines
and devices used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention
of disease, whether compounded or dispensed on the
prescription of a medical practitioner, or otherwise legally
dispensed or sold, and shall include the proper and safe
storage and distribution of drugs, the maintenance of proper
records, therefor, and the responsibility of providing
information, as required, concerning such drugs and
medicines and their therapeutic values and uses in the
treatment and prevention of disease.]:

(1)    THE SELECTION, PREPARATION, AND DISPENSING
OF DRUGS, MEDICINES, AND DEVICES USED IN THE DIAGNOSIS,
TREATMENT, AND PREVENTION OF DISEASE;

(2)    THE PROPER AND SAFE STORAGE OF DRUGS AND
DEVICES;

(3) MAINTENANCE OF RECORDS;

(3) (4) THE IDENTIFICATION AND EVALUATION
APPRAISAL OF PROBLEMS RELATING TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OR
MONITORING OF DRUG THERAPY OR BOTH; AND

(4) (5) THE INTERPRETATION AND PROVISION OF
INFORMATION TO PATIENTS AND HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS IN
ORDER RELATED TO ASSURE THE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE USE OF DRUGS,
MEDICINES, AND DEVICES; AND
