may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
Charles County State's Attorney in office on the effective
date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning
the salary of the Charles County State's Attorney shall take
effect at the beginning of the next following term of
office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.

AN ACT concerning

Charles County - Sheriff

FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Charles County
Sheriff and specifying that the change shall not affect
the incumbent.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

Section 2-309(j)

Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article — Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-309.

(j) The Sheriff of Charles County shall receive a
salary of [$18,000] $22,000. The Board of Public Safety of
Charles County shall appoint the number of deputy sheriffs
it deems necessary. The books of the Sheriff shall be
audited annually, and copies of the audit published by the
County Commissioners in local newspapers.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
Charles County Sheriff in office on the effective date of
this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the
salary of the Charles County Sheriff shall take effect at
the beginning of the next following term of office.
