CHAPTER 231

AN ACT concerning

Courts — Service Charge for Bad Checks

FOR the purpose of providing for a service charge against
any person giving to a court clerk a check not honored
by the bank on which it is drawn.

BY adding to

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

Section 7-208

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1974 Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

7-20 8.

IF ANY PERSON GIVES A CHECK TO THE CLERK    TO PAY FOR ANY

CHARGE OR FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE AND THE CHECK    IS NOT HONORED

BY THE BANK ON WHICH IT IS DRAWN, THE CLERK      MAY IMPOSE A
SERVICE CHARGE OF $10 AGAINST THE PARTY DRAWING THE CHECK.

THIS CHARGE SHALL BE IN ADDITION TO ANY      OTHER PENALTY
PRESCRIBED BY LAW.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.

Time - Computation

FOR the purpose of     specifying that Saturdays     and legal

holidays are       included in and excluded     from the

computation of   time for certain purposes     under the
Election Code.
